Since our previous (November 30, 2009) web site update we have new information on 141 of our ancestors, cousins, and other kinfolk. We have also found and added 52 additional names to this extended family history, now totaling 4,421 of our kin past and present.
In these web pages you will find documented history on our ancestors lives. Finding who our ancestors were, and because of them, who we are, is a mystery to unravel — a real life who-dun-it. There are clues to follow, people to interview, deductions to be made, false trails, heroes and villains, and maybe a beautiful princess. It is an absorbing journey that brings history, and understanding, to life through the eyes of your family.
In these web pages you will also see pictures including portraits and wedding photo's, as well as many images of the original documents that enhance the information and history about our ancestors, including: Selected census images from 1840-1930; ships manifests, Land Patents or "homestead papers"; Military records including: Civil War Pension Index Cards, World War I Draft Registration cards and World War II Draft Registration Cards; "Vital" records including Birth Certificates, Marriage Certificates, and Death Certificates, as well as Family Registers from Bibles; Newspaper articles including obituaries, and even pictures of gravestones, marking their final resting places; and many, many others of both a personal and a historical interest.

The original bound and published Pictorial Family Register book was given as a Christmas gift in December 1871 to Minerva Dayton "Minnie" Bateham (1856-1885) by her friends, Jennie T. Hazen and H. R. Lewis, of Chicago, Illinois. The register was filled out by hand circa 1871-1901 mostly by her mother, Josephine Abiah (Penfield) Cushman Bateham (1829-1901). After Minerva's death, the register was maintained by her mother. The register then passed to Josephine's youngest daughter, Sarah Cushman (Bateham) Stevens (1862-1918), then to her youngest daughter, Helen Josephine (Stevens) Lang (1890-1971), and then to her daughter Casandra Louise "Sandrah" (Lang) Pohorlak (1911-1982). Upon Casandra's death the register was inherited by her niece, Sandra June (Lang) Carr of Prescott, Arizona, who passed it to Dan Patch Bateham (2nd great-grandnephew of Josephine Abiah Penfield and Michael Boyd Bateham) of Port Angeles, Washington, in 2009.
